Sony PlayStation Vue adds Chromecast to supported platforms

Chromecast just joined the ever-expanding lineup of supported devices or Sony’s cloud TV play, PlayStation Vue, joining Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Sony’s own PS4 and PS3, iPhone and iPad.

Users have been waiting fro Chromecast since Sony announced it would be joining the family back in mid-November. Support for Chromecast is initially being offered via compatible iOS devices.

The service, which launched in March, in November dropped the prices of its two top tiers $5. The 85-chanel “Elite” service is now $65, and the 60-channel core is $55.

Sony has been tight lipped about subscriber numbers but has said PlayStation Vue is watched more than five hours a day, with the critical 18- to 34-year-old demographic making up 75% of those viewers.

The multichannel cloud TV service currently is available in Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, New York City and San Francisco.

Stay tuned.

A recent study from a consumer research firm found an astonishing 41% of U.S. adults said they’d be shaving — or cutting — the pay-TV cord in the next 12 months. They also found satisfaction with OTT was higher than with pay TV and that they were more likely to recommend an OTT service to a friend or family member than a pay-TV service.
