Personalized recommendations on any device

You have a video service up and running. Step one done. Now, that’s a relief. But now you are monitoring your stats - staring at the number of views which is not growing as fast as you wanted. You know you need a step 2. What is it? The answer: Personalize the user experience.

Personalization is a key driver for your video business. As mentioned in my previous blog post, tailored content helps increase video engagement without the need to create or publish more content. Ooyala Discovery is our patented personalization engine that delivers the right video at the right time to keep your viewers engaged longer, increasing ad revenues and user retention.

Today, we released a newly architected version of Ooyala Discovery. This is the first in a series of upcoming releases of our next generation personalization platform. The next-gen platform is built on the state of the art machine learning algorithms -  based on technologies such as Spark, HDFS, and Elasticsearch.

With today’s release, you can use Ooyala Discovery to recommend content any device (like Roku, XBox or AppleTV).  Further, the new recommendation engine is architected to provide flexibility to tailor content recommendations per app and user context, based on conent data model and metadata based filtering. Which means, you can now restrict content recommendations to a specific genre or movie classification, etc. You can also filter recommendations based on a set of defined rules. For example, a broadcaster can provide targeted recommendations for kids by filtering on content maturity rating or a publisher can highlight videos based on a user’s last watched short form video.

Stay tuned as we add more APIs and features to the new recommendation engine.

We continue to provide out of the box recommendations via an in-player experience - that can be tailored to recommend trending, popular, personalized, editorial content or a combination of these algorithms.

Together with Ooyala IQ, you can now get real-time, comprehensive data insights and personalized video recommendations on any device.

The Berrics has the most awarded skateboard site in the world. In 2007, professional skateboarders Steve Berra and Eric Koston opened a massive skateboard park in an industrial area near downtown Los Angeles. They named this first-of-its-kind park after themselves (BERa + eRIC) and it’s been a mecca for avid skateboarders ever since.
