Ooyala Player enhancements: April release adds DVR feature & more

By Steve Biondolillo on May 09 2016 at 9:45 AM

Last month we unveiled our brand new HTML5-first Ooyala Player. The Ooyala Player is fast, fully customizable and integrates with all major ad and analytics platforms. It’s been receiving rave reviews from customers and everyone who saw it in action at NAB.

Since the release we continue to innovate and in  our most recent update, we added a new live DVR feature that allows a user to drag the slider backwards and then catch up to present time. This is an important feature for many broadcasters as live streaming is booming globally as the market for premium OTT video grows.

The latest update  also includes a new Ooyala Pulse Ad Manager plugin that allows publishers to take full control over their ad inventory; an updated VAST ad manager that makes ad loading universal across ad managers and ensures more accurate ad impression numbers; and closed caption capabilities via the player skin.

We also added support for FairPlay playback in our iOS SDKs and Google Widevine Modular playback in our Android SDKs, providing a better mobile playback experience for protected premium content. This allows our customers to consistently cover the widest array of iOS and Android devices, including newer versions like iOS 9 and Android 6, and easily create native apps that provide wider coverage for video streaming, core playback and DRM functionalities.

If you’re an Ooyala customer, please contact your account manager or technical support if you have any questions about upgrading to the new Ooyala Player.

The Berrics has the most awarded skateboard site in the world. In 2007, professional skateboarders Steve Berra and Eric Koston opened a massive skateboard park in an industrial area near downtown Los Angeles. They named this first-of-its-kind park after themselves (BERa + eRIC) and it’s been a mecca for avid skateboarders ever since.
