Netflix teams with Millicom to reach mobile consumers in LatAm

Latin America is a huge smartphone market, on track to become the second largest behind Asia Pacific. In LatAm, Millennials are especially likely to purchase a mobile phone in lieu of a television set. So, it’s notable that Netflix is looking to leverage that predilection by making a deal with Latin American operator Millicom to preload its Netflix app on the service provider’s Tigo and TigoUNE customers’ Android smartphones.

Some TigoSmart mobile and TigoStar residential plan subscribers also can receive a prepaid Netflix subscription.

“By partnering with Millicom we’re making it even easier for many TV fans and movie lovers in Latin America to enjoy Netflix at home and on the go,” said Netflix director of business development, Paul Perryman.

Millicom claims a customer base of 2.5 million homes and more than 32 million mobile customers in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Paraguay.
