Five years after it launched in Mexico, Netflix is dominating the SVOD market, with a share estimated to be more than 70% of the 6.2 million households with an SVOD service at the close of Q3.
Research from The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU) said Televisa’s recently launched Blim service has already overtaken Claro Video to account for 17.5% of users, with America Movil’s platform dropping from 28.7% of subscriptions at the end of June to 9.3% at the end of Q3, said the report. Blim has increased its share from 1.5% in May 2015.
Netflix, Blim and Claro Video dominate the Mexican SVOD market, with other services such as Mubi (1%), Fox Play, HBO Go and YouTube Red accounting (about 0.7% of users each) making up the rest of the market.
There’s still plenty of room for growth, with the market expected to close 2016 with about 6.7 million HH.
