Hulu live streaming price to be under $40; adds CBS, CBS Sports to line up

Hulu’s entry into live streaming will launch within the next few months for less than $40/mo., according to Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins, who also announced the service had reached a deal with CBS for its live content to go along with ABC and Fox.

Missing still is NBCUniversal, which, interestingly, is one of Hulu’s owners.

Hulu will face off against three other live streamers, Dish Network’s Sling TV, PlayStation’s Vue and AT&T’s DirecTV Now, all of which also cost less than $40 for basic OTT service.

DirecTV Now, which launched at the end of 2016 has a 60-plus channel package for $35, along with an 80-plus channel package for $50/mo., a 100-plus channel deal for $35/mo. (which goes to $60/mo. Monday) and a 120-plus channel offer for $70/mo.

Hulu says its entry-level price will include the basic on-demand Hulu subscription and a cloud DVR service at launch.

In Addition to NBCUniversal (Comcast), Hulu’s owners include Disney, Fox and Time Warner, which is in the process of being acquired by AT&T.

In addition to CBS, Hulu also announced deals today with CBS Sports Network and POP.

CBS didn’t include its other cable properties, CW and Smithsonian, although Hulu could add them later.

The two already have a deal to offer Showtime as a premium add-on.
