Bell Fibe TV becomes 1st Canadian pay-TV service on Apple TV
Monday, November 7, 2016

Canadian telco Bell Canada is making its IPTV product, Bell Fibe, available on Apple TV, making it the first pay-TV service from the Great White North to be available on the device.

The Fibe TV app on 4th-gen Apple TV’s enables users to watch up to 450 channels live or on demand, and to see what the top trending shows are at any time. Bell said it will expand the product to make it possible for viewers to watch Fibe TV recordings as well as pause and rewind live TV on Apple TV, by the end of the year.

“Fibe TV continues to be the fastest growing TV service in Canada because of our constant focus on delivering new and exclusive features and building great partnerships to make television better,” said Rizwan Jamal, President of Bell Residential and Small Business. “Consumers can access Fibe TV through a receiver, on their computer or mobile device, and now, for the first time in Canada, on Apple TV.”

In September, Bell said it also plans to make Fibe TV a standalone TV service by the end of Q1 2017, allowing subscribers to any ISP to access the service, a move executives think will serve to further Fibe TV’s expansion across Canada.

Bell has said it will invest a further $1 billion in 2016 to bring Fibe capability to a total of approximately 3 million homes and businesses in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Québec, up from 2.2 million at the end of 2015.

Stay tuned.
